Product Information

  • Produces lovely large and compact bulbs
  • Mild subtle flavour with a delicate aroma
  • Supplied as 2 bulbs
Dig into deliciousness with the wilko Germidour Pink Garlic Bulbs. Germidour produces lovely large and compact bulbs with white, papery skins that are attractively streaked with pinky-purple. It has a mild, subtle flavour and delicate aroma. It comes from France and is well-suited to the UK's climate, producing large bulbs with around 12 or more plump white cloves in each. Softneck garlic, unlike hardneck types, does not produce flower stems but matures sooner and typically has a milder yet interesting flavour. Softneck garlic also has better storage properties and can be stored for up to three months in good condition after harvesting. Germidour is easy to grow and a dependable cropper, making it an excellent choice for gardeners of any skill level. Garlic is traditionally planted on the shortest day of the year (21-22 December) and harvested on the longest (20-22 June), but it can also be planted in the autumn or spring. Autumn plantings will produce earlier crops and, although winter hardy, may benefit from protection from the cold or can be grown in a greenhouse or tunnel. If planting in the spring, wait until the frosts have passed before placing the cloves in the ground. Germidour thrives in a sunny spot in most well-drained soils. If your soil is heavy, prepare the plot in advance by digging in some well-rotted manure or garden compost (avoid using fresh manure) and some sand or grit to improve fertility and drainage. Alternatively, grow in good quality compost in raised beds, trugs, or containers. Garlic doesn't take up much space, making it an ideal choice for small-space gardening. It is an excellent companion plant for roses and other plants or vegetables that are susceptible to greenflies, as its aroma will help repel them. Supplied as 2 bulbs ready to split into approximately 10-12 cloves for planting after the risk of frost has passed. Grows to: H60 x W15cm. Plant from October to April and harvest from May to July.
