Should you remove old soil when repotting?

It all depends! If your plant wasn't thriving, chances are it extracted every last nutrient from the old soil. In that case, it's best to scoop out some of the old stuff and replace it with fresh soil full of new life. But if your plants were doing a happy dance in the old soil, you can give it another go-round.

How soon after getting a plant can you repot it?

Waiting a few days or even weeks sounds like a solid plan. Just keep an eye on those roots—if they're not poking out from the top or sneaking through the drainage holes, you've got some time to spare before repotting. And remember, it's best to hold off on repotting right after bringing the plant home.
