The Johnsons Seeds Verbascum Phoeniceum Mix will make a delightful addition to perennial borders with its slim stately spires in a range of subtle colours. A true perennial, they can be grown in all types of well drained garden soil. A perfect cheery addition to your garden. Indoor sowing: January to March, in trays of seed compost. Sow thinly and cover lightly with compost. Keep at approx. 13˚C. Seedlings appear 14-28 days. When large enough transplant 10cm apart in further trays of compost. Stand outside for a few days late May (avoid frosts). Then transplant 30cm apart in flowering position. Flowers June to August, the same year. Outdoor sowing: April to May, in trays of compost. Sow thinly in moist compost. Keep trays in a cold frame or cool greenhouse. When seedlings are large enough transplant 10cm apart in further trays and stand outside. Transplant 30cm apart in flowering position from September to October. Flowers May to August, the following year. Remove dead heads to prolong flowering. TIP: Feed plants in autumn, especially the first year
