- Sweet blooms throughout the summer and into autumn
- Tall slender stems sway in the breeze
- Ideal for cut flower displays
Cosmos ‘Cupcakes and Saucers’ is a beautiful mix of traditional cosmos and Cosmos Cupcakes. These colourful blooms will flower throughout the summer and continue into autumn. Standing on tall, slender stems, they sway gently in the breeze, creating a soft and floaty effect. These plants thrive in sunny spots and are also great for cut flowers. To grow Cosmos from seeds, sow them from March to May at a depth of 3mm (1/8 inch) in quality seed compost. Lightly cover the seeds with a very fine layer of vermiculite. Place the seed tray in a propagator at a temperature between 18-25°C (64-77°F) or seal it inside a polythene bag. Keep the soil damp but not soggy. It’s important not to exclude light, as this helps with germination, which usually takes about seven to 15 days. Once the seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant them into 7cm (3 inches) pots and grow them in cooler conditions until they are ready to be planted outdoors. When the Cosmos plants are well-established and all risk of frost has passed, acclimate them to outdoor conditions for seven to ten days. Transplant the seedlings outdoors in a sunny area with any moist, well-drained soil, spacing them 45cm (18 inches) apart. To encourage branching and more flowers, pinch out the growing tip of each stem when transplanting. Note: Images provided are for guidance on the expected results of mature plants. Different growing conditions may affect results. Images may also vary due to seasonal changes (e.g., deciduous plants lose leaves during colder months).
