Bring the butterflies to your garden with the brilliant, daisy-like blooms of Johnsons Rudbeckia Goldstrum seeds. Usually grown as an annual, you can grow them in mixed borders for a wonderful mix of colours. This hardy plant grows well in poor soil and repels pests. Indoor sowing: February to April, in trays of seed compost. Sow thinly, cover lightly with a fine layer of compost. Firm gently and keep moist. Cover tray with glass, polythene or propagator lid. Keep at approx. 15-20˚C. Seedlings appear 14-21 days. Remove cover when seedlings appear. When large enough transplant 5cm apart in trays. Stand outside for a few days late May (avoid frosts). Transplant 30cm apart in flowering position. Keep moist and weed free. Flowers July to October. Remove dead heads to prolong flowering. Outdoor sowing: April to May, in a prepared seed bed in flowering position. Sow thinly in rows 30cm apart. Cover lightly with fine soil. Firm gently and keep moist. When large enough to handle, thin to 30cm apart. Flowers August to October. Remove dead heads to prolong flowering. TIP: Cut flowers are best picked when buds begin to show colour.
