Extremely nutritious and equally versatile, the Johnsons Seeds Kale Ethiopian Amara is a must for any vegetable garden. It is also known as Texsel Greens or Garlic Kale for their flavour and are an excellent source of vitamins A and C. You can use them raw as baby leaf or cooked when mature. Outdoor sowing: April to June for mature plants and to September for baby leaf. In a prepared seed bed. Sow thinly in rows 30cm apart. Cover lightly with fine soil. Firm gently and keep moist. Seedlings appear 7-21 days. When 5-6 leaves are formed, transplant to final position 45cm apart for mature plants. Firm plants in well. For cut and come again baby leaves, thin to 10cm apart. Cut when approx. 7.5cm tall, they will regrow for 3-4 cuts. Repeat sow regularly. Harvest June to December for baby leaf, or September to March for mature plants. Indoor sowing: March to May (to harvest as mature plants), in trays of moist compost. Sow thinly, cover with a fine layer of compost and firm gently. Keep at approx. 15˚C and keep moist.
