Johnsons’ Chives Seeds produce quality chives, which are loved for their fresh, delicate onion flavour. They are suitable for several dishes as well as salads. The chives seeds can be grown in flower beds or pots of moist compost. Indoor Sowing: March-May, or all year round, for pots indoors. Sow thinly, cover lightly with compost, and firm gently. Cover with clear glass, polythene or a propagator lid. Keep at 15-20°C and keep moist. Seedlings appear in 14-28 days. Remove the cover when seedlings appear. Thin plants to further pots or trays if necessary. To grow outdoors, stand outside for a few days in late May (avoid frosts) and plant out 20cm apart. To grow indoors, transplant to 15cm pots of compost and place them in a light, airy location. Harvest outdoor crops from June and indoor crops all year round. Pick leaves as required. Outdoor Sowing: March-May, in the growing position. Sow thinly, and cover lightly with fine soil. Firm gently and keep moist. Thin seedlings to 15cm apart. Cut the leaves as required once the plants are established.
