Grow your own exceptionally tasty strawberries with 'Elsanta' – perfect for growing in the garden or in patio pots if you are short of space. The aromatic, glossy fruits of Strawberry 'Elsanta' have an outstanding flavour and your plants will produce 400-500g of fruit this summer per plant, given the right conditions. The vigorous dark green plants will produce large orange-red berries that are terrifically tasty and can be picked from mid-June through to mid-July. Ideal for jam making, delicious desserts, or just picking and eating fresh from the plant. Height 20cm (8”) and spread 30cm (12”). Plant strawberry plants in autumn or late spring in a sheltered, sunny position in well-manured, free-draining soil. Plant strawberry runners every 45cm (18”) in rows spaced at 75cm (30”) apart. Spread out their roots and place them in the soil at a level where the crown of the plant is just poking above the surface. Avoid planting them too deeply, as this may cause them to rot. Alternatively, try growing strawberry plants in hanging baskets or in specially designed strawberry planters for the patio.
