How to Grow: Plant blackcurrants in full sun or light shade, sheltered from cold winds and late frosts. Prepare rich, moist, well-drained soil incorporating well-rotted manure. Plant between late autumn and spring, spacing 1.5m apart and 5cm below the original soil mark to encourage extra stems. Reduce stems to 2 buds above ground after planting. Keep well watered, particularly during fruit development, and protect with netting from birds. Harvest from July. Prune out thin, weak, or damaged shoots after the first season, removing 20% of remaining stems to maintain an open, productive bush. Suitable for freezing or fresh eating in salads and puddings.
