Product Information

  • Produces crisp, sweet Gala apples in autumn
  • Perfect for patios and small gardens
  • Spring blossom, great for pollinators
Apple ‘Gala’ Malus is a well-known and popular variety, much loved for its reliably heavy crops of large red flushed fruit along with excellent all-around garden performance. Not only will this variety produce a good crop of tasty dessert apples with a crisp, juicy texture and sweet flavour, but you’ll also get an attractive show display of blossom in the spring which is great for pollinators. This variety has a lovely flavour when eaten fresh and is also very good for juicing. Grafted onto a dwarf rootstock, it boasts all the qualities of a full-sized tree, but in miniature form! Grow this low-maintenance tree in patio containers or within a mixed flower bed and enjoy its long-lasting seasonal interest for years to come. Plant patio fruit trees in 60cm 2’ diameter containers using a good quality compost such as John Innes No.3. Alternatively plant them in any well-drained soil in a sheltered sunny position. Plant fruit trees at their original soil level, firm them into the ground and water well. Feed and water containerised plants regularly. Pruning fruit trees begins immediately after planting. Remove the central stem to just above the highest side branch. For the following 3 years, prune only the tips of the remaining main branches by one-third in winter. Aim for about six main branches which will form the frame of your tree, with fruiting sub-branches growing off of them. From the fourth year, some sub-branches can be pruned out at the union where they join the main branch, to allow new sub-branches to take their place. Position: Full Sun Height: Up to 1m when fully established Spread: Up to 45cm when fully established Supplied as 1 x Malus Apple ‘Gala’ mini fruit tree in a 9cm pot.
