Kiwi 'Jenny' is a self-fertile, hardy variety. The ideal choice if you only have space for one of these spectacular climbers in your fruit garden. An impressive specimen in its own right with red tipped, heart shaped foliage and the clusters of small white flowers in the summer. The sweet egg-shaped fruit can be harvested in August and September - simply delicious pick you own fruit, fresh from your garden. Grow in a sunny position in any fertile, well-drained soil. A sheltered position is essential as kiwis are particularly sensitive to adverse weather conditions. Prior to planting, incorporate plenty of well-rotted manure or garden compost into the planting hole, firm in plant and water well. Provide the twining stems with an appropriate support wires strung between sturdy posts, to train as an espalier. Feed and water regularly until fully established, particularly during hot dry periods. Train the stems onto their supports. In autumn apply a mulch of well-rotted manure or compost to the base of the plant.
