Grow your own delicious blueberries with this collection of three exceptional varieties, carefully selected to bring you a bumper harvest which lasts all season long. Blueberry plants are fully hardy, easy to grow and low maintenance, thriving in acid borders or in patio containers with ericaceous compost. Blueberries are known for their excellent health benefits as well as beautiful flavour. Ideal for snacking or for use in muffins, jams and puddings. Collection comprises: Blueberry 'Brigitta' - Firm, tasty fruits with a crisp texture making them ideal for freezing or eating fresh from the bush. Blueberry 'Chandler' - Enormous, firm berries weighing up to 2g and measuring 20mm (¾inch) in diameter are produced in August and September. Blueberry 'Earl blue' - An early maturing variety producing clusters of large, light blue, sweetly flavoured berries from the beginning of July. Blueberries require a well drained, acid soil in a sunny or semi shaded position. In areas where acid soil does not naturally occur, grow blueberry plants in patio containers using a mix of ericaceous compost and John Innes No. 3. If possible, blueberries should be watered with rainwater because the lime contained in tap water will reduce the acidity in the soil over time. Blueberries will begin to produce fruit in their third year. As fruits begin to develop, cover the plants with netting to protect the berries from birds. From their third year, begin to prune out the oldest stems each autumn to promote new growth and maintain a healthy plant framework.
