Product Information

  • Produces up to 4.5cm long sweet blackberries
  • Grows up to 2m tall and spreads up to 1.2m
  • Thrives in full sun
Blackberry Reuben is a truly exceptional variety. It’s the first ever primocane variety, producing delicious, large fruit on the first year’s growth. It’s easy to grow and very rewarding – with fruits that measure up to 4.5cm in length and weighing up to 11g, a fully mature plant can yield up to 7 x 500g punnets of fruit! These mammoth blackberries taste delicious fresh and can be eaten straight from the plant or used in multiple sweet dishes. With a sweetness rating of 11.5 on the Brix scale (a sweet strawberry measures up to 9.5), it’s well-known and very popular for its incredible flavour. As a primocane, it fruits on space-saving, upright canes and the first year’s growth, so you can enjoy crops even sooner after planting. Incorporate plenty of well-rotted manure or garden compost into the ground prior to planting Blackberries. Plant blackberry bushes in a sunny position in any well-drained soil, allowing a distance of 90cm between plants. Firm in and water well. Primocane Blackberries should be pruned to 30cm immediately following planting to encourage more shoots to be produced. Primocane varieties have an upright growth habit and do not require supports for their stems. Water well for the first year until the blackberry plants are fully established. Cover the plants with netting to protect the crop from birds as blackberry fruits begin to develop. Blackberries can be harvested from August onwards. Position: Full Sun. Height: Up to 2m when fully established. Spread: Up to 1.2m when fully established. Images shown are for guidance only of the expected results from plants upon maturity. Different growing conditions might vary the results. Image may be included for illustration of supply, but can vary due to seasonality changes (e.g. deciduous plants lose leaves in colder months).
