Product Information

  • Compact upright habit, grows to 90cm tall
  • Ideal for small gardens and patio containers
  • Thornless stems for easy berry picking
Blackberry ‘Opal’ is fantastic little specimen with a neat, compact and upright habit which reaches only 90cm tall, making it ideal for growing in gardens where space is limited or in patio containers. This easy-to-grow fruit bush is reliable and relatively fuss free, producing a bumper harvest of delicious blackberries during late summer and autumn. The berries have a great flavour and taste great either eaten fresh or used in puddings or jams. As an additional plus, the thornless stems make for easy picking. Like all blackberries, ‘Opal’ is also great for attracting wildlife to the garden, with delicate white early-summer blooms which are a magnet to bees and other pollinators, and only taking up a fraction of the space of a traditional cultivar. Plant blackberry ‘Black Opal’ in containers using a good quality, well drained compost such as John Innes No. 2. Position them in a sunny spot and water well. Feed and water Blackberry bushes regularly throughout the growing season. Cover the plants with netting to protect the crop from birds as blackberry fruits begin to develop. Blackberries can be harvested from August onwards. In autumn, prune the canes which have fruited over summer to ground level. Canes which have not fruited should be left intact. Position: Full Sun Height: Up to 90cm when fully established Spread: Up to 90cm when fully established. Supplied as 1 x Blackberry ‘Opal’ in a 9cm Pot. Delivered with growing and care instructions Images shown are for guidance only of the expected results from plants upon maturity. Different growing conditions might vary results. Image may be included for illustration of supply but can vary due to seasonality changes (e.g. deciduous plants lose leaves in colder months).
