Product Information

  • Thornless canes for easy fruit picking
  • Heavy crops from mid-August to autumn
  • Great flavour for eating or cooking
Growing on slightly shorter, more upright canes than many other blackberries, ‘Loch Ness’ is a great choice for a smaller space. This British-bred variety produces firm, juicy black conical fruits on thornless stems which makes picking much easier. Blackberry ‘Loch Ness’ is an RHS AGM variety, and is renowned for producing reliable, heavy crops each year – often up to 3. 6kg of fruit is produced from each plant when established. Ripening from around mid-August and continuously well into autumn, the fruits have a great taste and are perfect for snacking, they also make a fantastic crumble or jam. Plant blackberry bushes in a sunny position in any well drained soil. Incorporate plenty of well-rotted manure or garden compost into the ground prior to planting. When growing blackberry plants, support the stems on a framework of wires stretched between sturdy 1. 8m (6') posts, or trained against a trellis or wall. Water well for the first year until blackberry plants are fully established. Train the stems onto their supports as they grow. Cover the plants with netting to protect the crop from birds as blackberry fruits begin to develop. Blackberries can be harvested from August onwards. In autumn, prune the canes which have fruited over summer to ground level. Canes which have not fruited should be 'tied in' to their supports. In spring, while the ground is moist, apply a mulch of well-rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the canes to improve moisture retention throughout the summer. Position: Full Sun Height: Up to 2m when fully established Spread: Up to 2. 5m when fully established Supplied as 1 x Blackberry ‘Loch Ness’ plant in a 9cm pot Images shown are for guidance only of the expected results from plants upon maturity.
