How Do I Know I Need A New Plant Pot?
You can never have too many plant pots, especially when it comes to growing season! Once you’ve caught the gardening bug, it’s worth having a selection of different sized plant pots available to plant seeds & bulbs, or transplant any crops which have grown too big for their pots.
You’ll find that different plants benefit from different sized pots, so it’s well worth having some large plant pots as well as smaller ones. Simply fill with compost and get planting! As potted plants won’t have access to the same level of organic material as they would in the ground, keep them happy with some plant food and make sure they are well watered, as they will dry out faster.
What Is The Difference Between Indoor and Outdoor Pots
In essence, your indoor and outdoor plant pots fulfil the same purpose: they’re both there to give your plant the soil & nutrients that it needs to grow! Pots are brilliant for planting as they’re portable, adaptable, and great for smaller spaces – especially good if your outside space is a balcony or a patio with no beds.
With indoor plants, a nice ceramic plant pot makes a lovely feature, just make sure you sit it on a plant pot saucer to protect your floors from soil and moisture. For climbing plants, both indoor and outdoor, using garden canes will add height to your surroundings and look lovely in the corner of a room, in the garden, or at the front of your property!
FAQs
Do plants do better in ceramic or plastic pots?
Both options have their perks, depending on what your plants need. Plastic pots are great at holding onto moisture, perfect for plants that love a consistently damp environment. Meanwhile, ceramic pots are a hit with plants that prefer their soil on the drier side, thanks to their porous nature, which lets the air flow freely.
What time of year do you plant pots?
With summer around the corner, you want to start planting the pots in April. But you’ll need to give them extra care to protect them from freezing temperatures. September and October are the prime seasons for those fall pots. Timing matters a lot when you plant your pots! Reading the planting instructions for your flower seeds and plants is always recommended.
What is Overpotting?
It's when you, with the best intentions, home a plant into a pot that's way too big for it. You think you're doing the plant a favour, but it stunts its growth. The poor thing feels waterlogged from all that excess moisture in the soil.
Do plants need to be repotted into bigger pots?
Absolutely! Plants appreciate some extra space in larger pots to stretch out their roots. But when it comes to repotting, it's important to handle the process with care to avoid stressing out our leafy friends. That means finding the perfect spot with just the right amount of light. And don't forget to keep them watered!
Should you remove old soil when repotting?
It all depends! If your plant wasn't thriving, chances are it extracted every last nutrient from the old soil. In that case, it's best to scoop out some of the old stuff and replace it with fresh soil full of new life. But if your plants were doing a happy dance in the old soil, you can totally give it another go-round.
How soon after getting a plant can you repot it?
Waiting a few days or even weeks sounds like a solid plan. Just keep an eye on those roots—if they're not poking out from the top or sneaking through the drainage holes, you've got some time to spare before repotting. And remember, it's best to hold off on repotting right after bringing the plant home.
