- Plant for a welcome sign that spring is coming
- Bulbs naturalise, giving more flowers to enjoy
- Supplied as a set of 20, size 5 or 6
A quintessential winter flower, the classic snowdrop Galanthus nivalis, emerges in January and lasts into March; they are the first sign that spring is coming and the cold winter days are behind us. Dark green stems and arching leaves push up into the light, even through frozen ground or snow, carrying delicately fragrant and nodding pure white single flowers, each with central petals tipped in a splash of green. They are absolutely beautiful and such a welcome sight. Hardy snowdrops like to grow in shaded areas and look wonderful growing beneath trees and shrubs, where they thrive in dappled light. They look delightful planted as a group in borders or in drifts across a lawn for a naturalistic look. They are also lovely growing in pots, as long as they do not dry out, as all snowdrops need moist soil. The bulbs will naturalise quickly, growing into large clumps that should be divided every few years. Just dig them up after flowering, but when they still have green leaves, then split them into smaller clumps before replanting. You will soon have an ever-growing colony of exquisite little flowers. Galanthus nivalis is a proven garden performer, guaranteed to be suitable for UK gardeners at every level of experience. You can therefore plant this in the garden with confidence for stunning displays for many years to come. Supplied as a set of 20 bulbs, size 5/6, ready to plant in autumn and growing to a height and spread of 10cm.
