- Compact, slow-growing evergreen conifer
- Upright habit, ideal for small gardens and hedging
- Tolerates sun to partial shade, low maintenance
Compact, evergreen and architectural, Thuja plicata ‘Can ’ is a semi-dwarf conifer with a slow-growing habit, which makes it the perfect staple for bringing fuss-free year-round structure, height and colour to the garden. This long-lasting and low-maintenance small tree, also known as Western Red Cedar, is really a gardener-friendly version of its bigger, more vigorous relatives. Make it a stand-out feature in a small garden or use it to add year-round structure to mixed borders or shrubberies. With an upright habit and naturally modest height, it’s great to grow as hedging too, over time forming a lovely, lush, dense boundary. Plant Thuja into any well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade. The soil can be acidic, alkaline or neutral. Protect plants from cold, drying winds, especially when younger. Thuja requires no maintenance, aside from occasional watering before establishment, especially those grown in containers, which can quickly dry out in hot summers. Position: Full Sun or Partial Shade. Height: Up to 2.5m when fully established. Spread: Up to 1.5m when fully established. Supplied as 1 x Thuja ‘Can ’ plant in a 9cm pot. Images shown are for guidance only of the expected results from plants upon maturity. Different growing conditions might vary the results. Image may be included for illustration of supply, but can vary due to seasonality changes (e.g. deciduous plants lose leaves in colder months).
