Product Information

  • Great specimen plant for large container or border
  • Dazzling blooms in spring and again in late summer
  • Low maintenance and no pruning needed
Often flowering twice a year, Magnolia 'Red Lucky' Patio Standard makes a superb specimen plant. The white petals, flushed on the outside with deep pink markings, appear in spring and again in late summer. This exceptional deciduous magnolia requires little maintenance making it ideal for growing in a large container on the patio or as part of a decorative border display. Plant magnolias in a sunny or semi shaded position with protection from cold winds and hard spring frosts. Magnolias prefer a rich, moist, well drained, acid to neutral soil. Incorporate plenty of well-rotted manure or garden compost to improve the soil prior to planting, mixing it thoroughly and deeply. Magnolia plants establish quicker when their roots are shaded. Following planting, apply a mulch of rotted bark chips, manure or garden compost, taking care not to mound it around the stem of the plant. Water regularly throughout the growing season until young magnolias are fully established. In spring, apply a mulch of well-rotted bark chips or garden compost to the base of the plant. Magnolias require little pruning other than to maintain their shape and remove damaged stems or crossing stems. Culinary note: The young flowers, once separated, can be pickled and then used either on their own as a treat or in salads.
