Salvia Hot Lips is a brilliant plant for spicing up summer patio pots or mixed borders with vibrant colour. During summer, this fabulously long-flowering variety produces a profusion of striking red blooms which gradually change to white, giving a bicolour effect in between. Thriving in most sunny locations, these drought-tolerant and naturally bushy plants have a sturdy, self-supporting structure, which all adds to their low-maintenance charm. The aromatic foliage has a fresh blackcurrant fragrance, which brings an additional bonus for the senses. This showy ornamental sage is perfect for cottage garden borders or incorporated into bedding schemes, adding a truly vibrant and extremely long-lasting display of colour throughout summer. Although perennial, this half-hardy Salvia will appreciate some protection from extreme winter weather. Salvia plants prefer a moist, but well-drained soil in full sun, although once established, they can also be very drought resistant. This Salvia will appreciate a sheltered position with protection from strong winds and particularly hard frosts. Feed and water regularly until fully established. Although perennial, Salvia x jamensis Hot Lips will require some winter protection in all but the mildest areas. When growing Salvia Hot Lips in containers, it can be moved to a cold greenhouse or conservatory over the winter months. Prune lightly in late spring when new growth appears to remove dead stems and maintain a bushy habit. Position: Full Sun/Partial Shade. Height: Up to 90cm when fully established.
