Product Information

  • High yields of 30cm pods
  • Supplied with full growing and care instructions included
  • Pack contains approximately 40 seeds
Bring life and beauty to your space with the Thompson and Morgan Runner Bean St George Seeds. It is a British-bred variety known for producing high yields of long, pale green pods accompanied by attractive red and white blooms throughout the summer months. These beans grow pods measuring 30cm (12 inches) in length and are recognised for their excellent quality, allowing for regular harvesting in late summer and early autumn, ensuring a continuous supply of delicious runner beans. Seeds can be sown indoors from mid-April for future transplanting or directly outdoors from late May to July. When sowing indoors, place seeds at a depth of 5cm (2 inches) in 7.5cm (3-inch) pots or trays filled with well-draining seed sowing compost. Germination occurs within 7-10 days at a temperature of 18-20°C (64-68°F). Following germination, grow the plants in cooler conditions until the frost risk has passed and they are sufficiently mature for transplanting. Acclimatise them gradually to outdoor conditions over 7 to 10 days before planting into rich, fertile, well-drained soil exposed to full sun or semi-shade, with protection against strong winds. Applying a thick layer of organic mulch around the base helps retain moisture and minimises weed growth. Regular watering is essential, especially during flowering, along with a liquid feed every 14 days throughout mid-summer. Pinch out the tips once the beans reach the top of their supports, with harvesting possible from July onwards. This half-hardy variety reaches a height of up to 300cm and a spread of 30cm and is supplied as a packet containing 40 seeds. Growing and care instructions are included, and images are provided for reference to potential maturity results, although growing conditions may lead to variations. The pack contains approximately 40 seeds.
