Product Information

  • Hybrid tea rose produces exquisite individual red blooms
  • Plant thrives in full sun and reaches up to 100cm height
  • Some flower parts are edible and suitable for syrups
Bring vibrant colour and classic charm to your garden with Thompson & Morgan Rose Breeders Choice Red Bare Root that produce exquisite red blooms, perfect for cut flowers and feature planting. Rose ‘Breeder’s Choice Red’ thrives in full sun, reaching up to one metre in height and 60cm in spread, and enjoys rich, well-drained soil for healthy growth. Feed and water regularly, deadhead faded flowers and prune in winter to encourage beautiful flowering and robust branches. You'll find this rose ideal for mixed borders or as a centrepiece in an English rose garden, with some parts even suitable for edible uses like syrups. How to grow: Plant bare root roses at the earliest opportunity following delivery. To avoid the risk from the build-up of harmful soil organisms and disease, choose an open position in full sun that has not been planted with roses in recent years. Roses enjoy a rich, fertile, well drained soil. Dig in plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost to the soil prior to planting roses and add a small handful of granular fertiliser to the planting hole. Feed and water rose plants regularly and deadhead faded flowers. When growing roses it is necessary to remove any suckers that arise from the base of the plant, below the graft union. In winter, begin pruning floribunda roses by removing dead and diseased wood, and any rubbing or damaged branches. Then reduce the stems to 20cm (10") above ground level. Side shoots should be reduced to two buds. Apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost to the base of the plant after pruning.
