Product Information

  • Peach buds open to pale yellow blooms
  • Grows and spreads up to 120cm when fully established
  • Thrives in full sun or semi shade
Thompson and Morgan Rhododendron Barnaby Sunset bears a profusion of pretty, funnel-shaped, play yellow flowers that open from peachy buds in April. Somewhat unusual in habit, this dwarf hybrid forms a particularly upright evergreen shrub covered with small, glossy leaves all year round. Low maintenance, neat and compact, this Thompson and Morgan Rhododendron Barnaby Sunset makes a fine specimen plant for spring borders and woodland gardens, and can also be grown in patio containers. Grow Thompson and Morgan Rhododendrons in moist, well-drained, acidic soil that has been enriched with plenty of well-rotted organic material. Choose a sheltered position in semi or dappled shade, away from cold, drying winds. Many dwarf Rhododendrons can cope with a sunny position as long as the soil remains moist. For alkaline soils, Rhododendrons are best grown in patio containers using a mix of ericaceous and soil-based composts. Thompson and Morgan Rhododendrons are surface rooting, so take care not to plant them too deeply. Water Thompson and Morgan Rhododendrons regularly throughout their growing season and, where possible, use rainwater as tap water may reduce the acidity in the soil over time. Feed in spring with a slow-release fertiliser for acid-loving plants, and protect from cold winds during winter. Rhododendrons grown in borders will appreciate mulching in autumn to protect their shallow roots from cold. When mulching, take care not to mound up around the stem, as this may cause rot. Lightly prune Thompson and Morgan Rhododendrons in June, where necessary, to remove damaged shoots and restrict size. Ideal For: Patio, Low Maintenance, Specimen Plant, Woodland Garden Hardiness: Hardy Position In: Sun or Semi-Shade Height: Up to 120cm. Spread: Up to 120cm.
