- Features red foliage
- Perfect for coastal, terrace or courtyard use
- Hardy, low-maintenance, spiky
Use it as a gorgeous centrepiece or a backdrop in a container or borders. The deep red coloured plant provides drama with its spiky shape in summer and remaining the focus point in Winter. This is an ideal plant for coastal gardens as it is resilient and can withstand salt air. It is also an option to have on terraces, balconies and courtyards. It will slowly mature and provide gorgeous fragile cream flowers. Grow on in frost-free conditions and acclimatise to the outdoors over 7-10 days before planting out. Grow Cordylines on fertile, well-drained soil. Choose a sheltered position in full sun. Cordylines are particularly well suited to mild coastal locations but do enjoy fertile soil, so it is well worth incorporating some well-rotted manure into the soil when planting. Feed and water regularly until fully established. Once established, Cordylines need little attention, but will require some winter protection should temperatures dip below 5C (23F). In cold areas, it may be preferable to grow Cordylines in large patio containers that can be moved undercover during the coldest months.
