Product Information

  • Features hardy shrub with cute flowers
  • Thrives in full sun or semi shade
  • Grows and spreads up to 4m when fully established
The best known of its species, Photinia Red Robin, is well loved for its blaze of bright scarlet young foliage in spring. The glossy new leaves and crimson stems make a strong contrast with the mature green foliage lower down the plant, giving an eye-catching two-tone effect. The spring foliage is complemented by rounded clusters of creamy white flowers. This popular evergreen shrub is versatile too - plant it in woodland areas and shrubberies for a splash of spring colour, or grow it as a low-maintenance specimen plant. This colourful variety even tolerates hard pruning, making a useful evergreen hedge. Position in a sunny or semi-shaded position, in any moderately fertile, moist, well-drained soil. In frost-prone areas, plant next to a warm wall or in the shelter of other shrubs. Prior to planting, incorporate plenty of well-rotted manure or garden compost into the soil. Plant at the same depth as planted in the nursery pot. Backfill the planting hole and water well to settle the soil. Water regularly throughout the growing season until fully established. In spring, apply a mulch of well-rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the plant. Once established, it requires only occasional attention, removing any damaged stems and lightly trimming those that spoil the shape of the plant in summer after flowering. If grown as a hedge, it can be trimmed up to 3 times a year, from late spring through to mid-August. Position: Sun or Partial Shade. Height: Up to 4m Spread: Up to 4m. Supplied in a 3.6-litre nursery Pot. Images shown are for guidance only of the expected results from plants upon maturity. Different growing conditions might vary the results. Image may be included for illustration of supply, but can vary due to seasonality changes and may not be the exact variety.
