Product Information

  • Organic seeds yield mild onion-flavoured shoots for versatile cooking
  • Hardy perennial returns yearly with pink and purple summer flowers
  • Pack contains approximately 350 seeds
Discover the secret to lush greenery with the Thompson and Morgan Organic Herb Chives Seeds. It is a resilient and stress-free herb that thrives in kitchen gardens and offers a range of culinary applications. As a member of the onion family, this perennial herb returns each year, making it a worthwhile addition to any garden. In the summer, it produces attractive pink and purple flower heads that draw in bees and butterflies. Direct sow chive seeds outdoors in early spring, ensuring a well-prepared seedbed in a full sun location. Sow seeds thinly at a depth of 1cm and in rows 30cm apart. Once seedlings are large enough to handle, thin them within each row to maintain a spacing of 23cm apart. Alternatively, chives can be grown indoors or in a glasshouse from March to June. Sow seeds on the surface of barely moist seed compost in pots or trays. Lightly cover the seeds with finely sieved compost and place them in a propagator at a temperature of 18 to 21°C until germination, which takes 14 to 21 days. When seedlings are ready to handle, transplant them into 7.5cm pots with four seedlings per pot and grow them in cooler conditions. Acclimatise the chive plants to outdoor conditions gradually over 7 to 10 days before planting them 30cm apart when the risk of frost has passed. Product specifications: 1 packet (350 chive seeds). Position: Full sun. Height: Up to 20cm when fully established. Spread: Up to 15cm when fully established. Supplied as Herb Seed - Organic Herb Chives ‘Staro’ – Hardy Perennial 1 packet (350 seeds). Images serve as a guide for the expected results from mature plants. Growing conditions can cause variations in actual results. Seasonal fluctuations may affect the appearance of images, such as deciduous plants shedding leaves in colder months. The pack contains approximately 350 seeds.
