Product Information

  • Pack contains 400 seeds
  • Medium to large hearts with crisp bright green leaves
  • Suitable for sun or semi shade
Bring fresh crunch and vibrant green to your kitchen garden with the Thompson and Morgan Lettuce Great Lakes Heritage Seeds, producing medium to large hearts that stay crisp and bolt-resistant through summer. Sow successionally for a steady supply, enjoy easy outdoor planting from March to August and watch your Great Lakes lettuce emerge in just 90 days. With up to 400 seeds in each packet, you'll have plenty to harvest and enjoy, whether in sun or semi shade, making it perfect for gardeners seeking reliable, tasty yields. Direct sow lettuce seeds outdoors from March to August into well-prepared, fertile, moist soil in sun or semi shade. Sow seeds thinly at a depth of one centimetre in drills 30cm apart in soil which has been raked to a fine tilth. When large enough to handle, thin out seedlings to 30cm apart and cover with a protective netting or fleece to prevent attack from birds and insects. Make regular sowings for a constant supply. Water lettuce frequently and hoe between plants regularly to prevent weeds from establishing. Dry weather may cause heads of lettuce plants to bolt, so watering is particularly critical during the two weeks before harvesting. A thick mulch applied around the plants will help to retain moisture in the soil. Harvest lettuce when required by pulling up the entire plant before trimming off the stem with a knife. Ideal For: Kitchen Garden. Hardiness: Half-hardy. Position In: Sun or semi-shade. Height: Up to 20cm. Spread: Up to 30cm. Images shown are for guidance only of the expected results from plants upon maturity. Different growing conditions might vary the results. Image may be included for illustration of supply, but can vary due to seasonality changes (e.g. deciduous plants lose leaves in colder months).
