This robust leek variety delivers long, thick stems imbued with a mild and distinctive flavour, making it a kitchen garden staple. Harvesting can take place from October through May, and it consistently yields well with minimal risk of bolting. Direct sow seeds outdoors at a 1cm depth from late March to April in a well-prepared seedbed for later transplanting, or start the seeds indoors between January and February at the same depth in modules with free-draining seed sowing compost. Keep the sown seeds in a propagator or a sealed container within a plastic bag at temperatures ranging from 10 to 15°C until germination, which typically occurs in 14 to 21 days. Once germinated, nurture the leek plants in cool conditions until the threat of frost has passed. When the leeks reach at least 20cm in height, gradually acclimate them to outdoor conditions over 7 to 10 days before transplanting into rich, fertile, well-drained soil, ideally positioned in full sun or partial shade. Space plants 23cm apart and maintain a 30cm distance between rows. Alternatively, leeks can thrive in patio bags filled with high-quality compost. Make planting holes 15cm deep using a thick dibber, place the leeks in the holes reaching the bottom, and fill each hole with water, ensuring enough soil is washed around the plants for proper establishment. This variety is hardy, growing up to 45cm in height and spreading up to 30cm, supplied as one packet containing 150 seeds.
