Otherwise named the Japanese blood grass for its deep red colouring, Imperata is a deciduous, perennial grass that will form loose clumps of green grass-like leaves with a deep red tinge, flowering in late summer with silvery blooms. Makes for a striking, yet subtle patio feature and the grassy leaves blowing in the breeze will add a Zen feel to the garden. Hardiness: Hardy Position In: Full sun or semi-shade. Height: Up to 50cm. Spread: Up to 50cm. Supplied as 9cm Nursery Potted Plants. Keep well watered if growing in a container. Position in full sun or dappled shade. Is a low-maintenance plant and does not require much attention apart from keeping it well watered. Cut down in February or March.
