- Features eye-catching bronze-pink spring fronds
- Grows up to 60cm tall and spreads up to 45cm
- Thrives in full sun
Enjoy a colour show with this award-winning hardy fern. The new fronds of Dryopteris wallichiana Jurassic Gold unfurl in a dusky bronze-pink colour in spring, before changing to a striking orange-tinged yellow, all set above a lush bed of mature green foliage to make an eye-catching contrast. This low-maintenance, hardy plant is ideal for growing in a dappled shade area or as part of a woodland-style planting scheme, making a robust, colourful and effective ground cover. For those with shaded patios, this fern will also thrive in a large patio container, providing a long season of colour and remaining evergreen in sheltered areas. Plant Dryopteris in a sheltered spot. Choose a position in dappled shade on fertile, moist, acid or neutral soil. Dryopteris ferns prefer a soil that is rich in organic matter, so add some well-rotted manure or garden compost to the soil prior to planting. Feed and water ferns regularly until they are fully established. Apply mulch of well-rotted manure or garden compost around the crown of each plant in spring. Position: Full Sun. Height: Up to 60cm when fully established. Spread: Up to 45cm when fully established. Images shown are for guidance only of the expected results from plants upon maturity. Different growing conditions might vary the results. Image may be included for illustration of supply, but can vary due to seasonality changes (e.g. deciduous plants lose leaves in colder months).
