- Great for pots, containers and borders
- Features crimson red stems and contrasting green foliage
- Extremely versatile and easy to grow
Umbrella bamboo is easy to grow and fills out quickly, making it an excellent choice for creating privacy screens and blocking road noise and traffic pollution. The clump-forming Fargesia 'Asian Wonder' is especially appealing with its ruby-red stems and olive-green foliage, offering a tropical look. As the canes mature, consider removing some of the lower leaves to showcase the attractive stems. This plant is ideal for adding structure and movement to your garden, whether in pots, beds, or borders. It works well against walls and fences, where it can create a full screen. When growing Umbrella Bamboo in pots, use soil-based compost and repot the plant into a new container. Water it well and place it in full sun or partial shade. Alternatively, you can plant Umbrella Bamboo directly into borders with any moist, well-draining soil, as bamboo does not thrive in poor, dry soils. If your soil is particularly free-draining, improve it by adding plenty of well-rotted manure or garden compost before planting. Choose a sheltered position that protects the plant from cold, drying winds. Keep in mind that bamboo spreads through underground rhizomes, so it should be given enough space to grow. If necessary, you can surround the roots with a barrier to limit their spread. Position: Full Sun/Partial Shade. Please note that images are provided for guidance on the expected results upon maturity. Actual results may vary based on different growing conditions. Images may also vary due to seasonal changes (e.g., deciduous plants lose leaves in colder months).
