Grow your own plants with this Echinacea Purpurea 'Magnus. Inject some late-summer colour into your planting schemes with this warming Echinacea purpurea ‘Magnus’ (Coneflower). Strong, upright stems each carry particularly large flowers in a toasty burnt orange hue and with a dark black centre. Busting into bloom in summer and continuing right through to autumn, this pleasing variety puts on a fantastic show which stays consistent come rain or shine. A great choice for a large cottage-style border or mingled in with soft ornamental grasses for a trendy, low-maintenance prairie look. Not only is it great in the garden, but it makes a great late-season cut flower too. Ideal for: Cottage gardens, wildlife gardens, cut flower gardens. Hardiness: Hardy. Position In: Full sun. Height: Up to 100cm. Spread: Up to 60cm. Echinacea Purpurea 'Magnus' is supplied in 9cm pots. Grow on Echinacea plants in frost-free conditions until large enough to transplant outdoors. Gradually acclimatise plants to outdoor conditions over a period of 7 to 10 days prior to planting out in borders. Grow echinacea plants in a sunny or semi-shaded position on moist, well-drained soil. Coneflowers prefer deep, fertile soil and will benefit from the addition of some well-rotted manure or garden compost to soil, prior to planting. Feed and water regularly throughout the growing season until coneflower plants are fully established. Deadhead faded Echinacea flowers to encourage more blooms to be produced. In autumn, cut back faded flower stems and apply a mulch of well rotted manure to the base of the plant. Divide overcrowded plants in autumn or spring.
