- Twisted branches with yellow catkins in February
- Hardy, easy care, RHS Award winner
- Grows up to 5m tall and wide
The curious, twisted branches give the Thompson & Morgan Corkscrew Hazel ‘Contorta’ a most distinctive appearance. In February, yellow catkins dangle elegantly from the bare stems before the contorted small green leaves unfurl. With its crooked stems, this deciduous shrub makes a superb feature for winter borders, woodland areas and oriental planting schemes. Thompson & Morgan Corkscrew Hazel ‘Contorta’ is hardy, easy to grow and has earned an RHS Award of Garden Merit. The twisted stems are also much loved by florists. Choose a position in sun or semi-shade when growing Thompson & Morgan Corkscrew Hazel ‘Contorta’ and plant in any fertile, well-drained soil. Corylus will also tolerate alkaline soils well, making it useful in chalky areas. Feed and water regularly until established. Once established, Thompson & Morgan Corkscrew Hazel requires little maintenance, however the stems can be cut back to just a few buds from the base of the plant to promote fresh contorted stems for the following season. Alternatively, remove any crossing, damaged or misplace stems in alter winter or early spring. Ideal For: Cottage Gardens, Cut Flower Gardens, Specimen Plants, Woodland Gardens Hardiness: Hardy Position In: Sun or Semi-Shade Height: Up to 500cm Spread: Up to 500cm Ease of Growing: Easy for All Ease of Aftercare: Easy for All
