Compact and tidy, it’s ideal for patios, trellises or small borders, thriving in containers or garden beds and reaching a manageable height of 4ft. Hardy and perennial, it’s simple to care for—just plant in fertile, moist but well-drained soil and prune in spring for a fresh flush of flowers. How to Grow: Plant in sun or part shade in fertile, moist but well-drained soil. When planting, ensure the top of the rootball is 7.5cm (3) below soil level to encourage healthy basal shoots. Clematis dislikes overly wet or dry soils, so improve with compost or well-rotted manure if needed. In containers, use John Innes No.3 compost and provide support. Feed and water regularly, and prune in spring, cutting last year’s stems down to a healthy pair of buds around 20cm above the ground.
