Product Information

  • Packet contains 20 seeds for allotment or garden use
  • Growing instructions delivered for easy sowing and care
  • Harvest period runs from August to November
Start your journey to a flourishing garden with the Thompson & Morgan Cauliflower Romanesco Veronica 20 Seeds Packet. It offers a mild, sweet flavour and a soft, melting texture once cooked. Sow cauliflower seeds between March and June by directly placing them into a well-prepared seedbed for later transplanting. Plant the seeds at a depth of 1cm and maintain a distance of 30cm between rows. Transplant the seedlings to their final spots approximately five weeks after sowing. Alternatively, seeds can be started indoors in trays filled with free-draining seed sowing compost at a depth of 1cm, covered with a layer of vermiculite. Keep them in a propagator or a sealed container inside a plastic bag at a temperature of 21°C until germination, which takes between four and seven days. Once the seedlings are ready, transplant them into 7.5cm pots and cultivate in cooler conditions until all risk of frost has passed and the plants are sufficiently large for outdoor transplanting. Gradually acclimatise the cauliflower plants to outdoor conditions over a period of seven to ten days before placing them in a sheltered area of firm, rich, fertile, well-drained soil in full sun. Prepare the soil in early spring by incorporating ample well-rotted farmyard manure to enhance its structure and fertility. For acid soils, applying lime can help reduce acidity and minimise the risk of clubroot. Space cauliflowers 25cm apart for smaller heads and 60cm apart for larger varieties. It is advisable to cover the plants with protective netting or fleece to guard against birds and insects. Ensure thorough watering after planting. The expected height of the mature plants is up to 45cm, with a spread of up to 60cm. The harvest period extends from August to November. Images provided serve as a reference for the anticipated results upon maturity, as various growing conditions may produce different outcomes.
