The Camellia Japonica Collection features three hardy evergreen shrubs available in striking colors of pink, yellow, and red. These plants produce long-lasting blooms from mid to late spring. The rest of the year, they are adorned with glossy green foliage, making them an attractive maintenance screen that adds structure and height to your garden. These camellias thrive in full sun or partial shade and include the following varieties: Bonomiana Pink, Brushfield Yellow, and Dr. King Red. Plant height and spread will vary seasonally; therefore, we provide a pot size instead of a fixed plant size. The height and spread of the delivered plants may differ depending on the season, so the images shown are for indication only. Camellia plants prefer moist, well-drained, acidic soil in a sheltered, shaded location. In areas where acidic soil is not naturally present, you can grow camellias in patio containers filled with a mix of ericaceous compost and John Innes No.3, placing them in dappled shade. Regular watering is essential until the plants are fully established. Whenever possible, use rainwater, as the lime in tap water can gradually reduce soil acidity. It's advisable to feed camellias occasionally with fertilizer formulated for acid-loving plants. To protect your camellias, shield them from cold winter winds and strong early morning sunlight, as these conditions may cause buds to drop in early spring. Applying autumn mulch can help guard their roots against winter cold. Generally, camellias require minimal pruning; simply maintain their shape by lightly trimming stems and removing faded blooms right after flowering.
