Product Information

  • Pack contains 100 seeds
  • Edible petals add colour and zest to salads
  • Compact plants reach up to 60cm in full sun
Catch the sunlight in your garden with the Thompson and Morgan Calendula Art Shades Seeds. These offer a burst of fiery orange, apricot and cream blooms that appear from June to September, when calendula seeds create a magical display that bees and pollinators love. Easy to grow outdoors from April to May, calendula adds vibrant colour to borders and makes an edible addition to summer salads, with petals that can even be used as a saffron substitute. With a compact height up to 60cm, these English marigolds thrive in full sun, offering masses of glistening flowers that brighten any space and encourage more blooms when deadheaded. Direct sow calendula seeds outdoors where they are to grow from April to May. Choose a position in full sun on well-drained soil which has been raked to a fine tilth. Sow seeds thinly, at a depth of one centimetre in drills spaced 30cm apart and cover the seed with its own depth of soil to exclude light. Water the ground regularly, especially during dry periods. Germination usually takes five to ten days. When calendula seedlings are large enough to handle, thin them out to 30cm apart. Water regularly until plants are fully established. Deadhead faded calendula flowers to encourage more blooms to be produced and prevent them from self-seeding. Culinary note: Calendula flowers are edible. The petals have been used as a substitute for saffron, and they make a bright and zesty addition to salads. Product Specifications: Position: Full sun. Height: Up to 60cm when fully established. Spread: Up to 20cm when fully established. Images shown are for guidance only of the expected results from plants upon maturity. Different growing conditions might vary the results. Images may be included to illustrate supply, but can vary due to seasonal changes (e.g., deciduous plants lose leaves in colder months).
