Buxus sempervirens is one of the most useful shrubs for topiary, with dense, small foliage which is easy to keep neatly clipped to shape. Well-loved for its ability to withstand regular clipping, Box plants provide low-maintenance structure to the garden all year round. Slow-growing Buxus sempervirens can take years of clipping to form a topiary shape, but this plant is supplied established and ready-clipped into a neat ball, so you can enjoy instant structure without the fuss! Buxus balls are really versatile and look just as great planted in mixed borders among relaxed flowers as they do in contemporary or formal gardens. Alternatively, plant them in patio containers for easy, year-round interest on the patio. PLEASE NOTE: decorative pots are not included. Grow Box plants in any fertile, moist, well drained garden soil, or plant in containers of soil-based compost such as John Innes No.3. Choose a position in sun or semi shade. On dry soils, Buxus sempervirens will prefer a semi shaded position. Improve poor, dry soils by incorporating plenty of well-rotted manure prior to planting. Water Box plants well until fully established. Box plants are relatively low maintenance but will require trimming once a year in mid-summer to maintain a neat shape. Choose an overcast day to avoid sun scorch. Feed and mulch Buxus sempervirens plants after pruning to promote healthy new growth. Caution: irritant to skin and eyes.
