- Heavy crops, stringless beans all season
- Gorgeous mauve flowers with tasty beans
- Perfect for vertical gardens and patios
The French Bean Climbing Cobra is a variety that produces an abundant harvest over a long growing season. It yields smooth, round, stringless green pods that are approximately 18 cm (7 inches) long. With its attractive mauve flowers, this plant makes a delightful addition to both flower borders and patio pots. To start, pot up the plug plants and grow them in warm, bright conditions until all risk of frost has passed. Gradually acclimatise the plug plants to outdoor conditions throughout 7 to 10 days before planting them in rich, fertile, well-drained soil in full sun, ensuring they have protection from strong winds. When planting climbing beans, space the rows 60 cm (24 inches) apart. If space is limited, you can grow climbing beans on a wigwam structure. These beans need support from garden canes, strings, or netting, which should be set up at the time of planting. While growing beans, it's important to hoe between plants frequently and water them regularly. To help with dry periods, provide a compost mulch around the base of the bean plants. For the best harvest, pick the beans regularly while the pods are still young. Culinary note: Beans are suitable for freezing. Caution: Be sure to cook climbing beans before eating them to prevent discomfort. Note that the images shown are for reference only and may vary due to growing conditions. The appearance of plants may differ with seasonal changes (e.g., deciduous plants losing leaves in colder months).
