Product Information

  • Evergreen perennial forms silvery-grey foliage carpets with yellow blooms
  • Vigorous ground cover thrives in poor soil and coastal areas
  • Nectar-rich flowers attract pollinators for wildlife-friendly gardens
Add a splash of colour with the Thompson and Morgan Alyssum Golden Queen Seeds. Bring a burst of radiant colour to your garden with carpets of silvery-grey foliage and vibrant golden-yellow flowers each spring, as this low-growing evergreen perennial creates a striking display whether spilling over containers or creeping through rockeries. You'll find it’s a fantastic low-maintenance choice for borders, banks or wall crevices, thriving even in poor soils and coastal spots. The nectar-rich blooms attract pollinators, making your garden a haven for wildlife, while its easy-care nature suits both beginners and seasoned gardeners. With a compact habit reaching up to 30cm high and spreading 45cm wide, it’s perfect for adding year-round interest and cheerful spring colour. Sow alyssum seeds from late March to May at 15-29C (60-85F), on the surface of a good quality seed compost and gently firm down. Keep the soil damp but not wet and do not exclude light. Place in a propagator or seal the seed tray inside a polythene bag until after germination, which usually takes 7-30 days. When seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant and grow them on in cooler conditions until large enough to plant outdoors. When alyssum plants are well grown, and all risk of frost has passed, acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over 7 to 10 days. Transplant outdoors in full sun on light sandy, well-drained soil at a distance of 30cm (12 inches) apart. Alternatively, sow alyssum seed outdoors in May, directly into well-prepared seed beds. Plants will flower the year after sowing. Water regularly until plants become fully established. Cut back after the first flush of bloom to encourage more alyssum flowers to be produced.
