Ottoman Storage

Types of Ottoman Storage

Ottomans come in a few different styles, depending on what you need. A storage bench is a versatile option as it’s long enough to sit on and roomy enough inside for bedding, cushions or throws. An ottoman stool is a more compact choice that suits smaller rooms or works as an extra footrest, while a blanket box tends to be deeper and better suited to bulkier seasonal items like spare duvets and winter coats. Foldable designs are worth considering if you're short on space or want something you can tuck away when it's not needed.

The foot of the bed is the classic spot for an ottoman, and for good reason. It's a natural home for everything from spare bedding to out-of-season clothes, with a blanket box or storage bench working best here. In the living room, a storage ottoman pulls double duty as a coffee table, footrest and hidden storage for remotes, magazines, kids' toys and throws. Go for a style with a flat, sturdy lid if you want it to work as a surface.

By the front door, a storage bench ottoman gives you somewhere to sit while putting on shoes and somewhere to stow them once they're off. Browse our shoe storage benches for designs built with the hallway specifically in mind. And in a kids' room, a fabric storage ottoman is a much more inviting way to tidy away toys than a plain box, with soft edges making it a safer option for younger kids too.

Ottoman Storage FAQs

What can I store in an ottoman?

Pretty much anything that benefits from being out of sight but within easy reach. Spare bedding and throws, kids' toys, books and magazines, cushions, shoes, seasonal clothing, and accessories.

What size ottoman do I need?

It depends on where you're putting it and how you plan to use it. For the foot of a bed, measure the width of the frame and leave a small gap on either side. A bench around 80–100cm wide suits most double and king-size beds. For a living room, think about how it relates to your sofa; a coffee table-height ottoman works best at around 40–45cm tall. All dimensions are listed on individual product pages.

Are storage ottomans sturdy enough to sit on?

Most of our storage ottomans are designed to be sat on, with sturdy internal frames and weight-tested lids. If you plan to use yours primarily as seating, a storage bench or a flat-lidded ottoman is the most practical choice.

Can ottomans be used as a coffee table?

Yes, and it's one of the most popular uses for a living room ottoman. Look for a design with a flat, firm lid and add a tray on top to create a stable surface for drinks and books. It also means the whole thing can be moved aside easily if you need the space.

What materials and finishes are ottoman storage available in?

Ottoman storage comes in a range of fabrics and finishes to suit different rooms and styles. Velvet and boucle add texture and a softer feel, making them popular choices for bedrooms and living rooms. Linen-look fabrics are a more relaxed, neutral option that fits most schemes without standing out too much. Faux leather is a practical choice if you want something easy to wipe clean, a good option for hallways or family homes where it's likely to see more wear.
