Extendable Dining Tables

Shop butterfly leaf and drop leaf extendable tables

A butterfly leaf table has a hidden panel that folds and stores inside the table itself. Simply slide the top apart, unfold the leaf, and lock it into place. There's nothing extra to store, which makes it a popular choice if you're short on space elsewhere.

A drop leaf table has hinged side panels that fold down against the table when not needed and lift back up when you want the extra surface. Drop leaf tables tend to have the smallest footprint of all when fully closed, making them a good fit for smaller dining areas, studios, and flats.

Find extending tables for small dining rooms

If space is tight, look for a table with a narrow closed width; drop leaf and butterfly leaf designs are generally the most space-efficient, since there are no separate leaves to store elsewhere. Round or square extendable tables can also work well in smaller rooms, since they take up less visual space than a long rectangular table, even when they’re the same width.

Browse seats for an extendable dining table

Most extendable dining tables seat four to six people closed, and expand to seat six to eight (sometimes more) with the leaf in place. If your dining room does double duty as a home office or everyday family space, a smaller closed size that still expands for occasional entertaining is usually a better choice than a permanently large table. Extendable Dining Tables FAQs

Do extendable dining tables need extra floor space to open?

Yes, always check the fully extended length (not just the closed size) against your room before buying, and leave enough clearance behind each chair for people to sit comfortably once the table is opened out.

Can I buy matching chairs for an extendable dining table?

Yes, our dining room furniture range includes chairs designed to complement extendable tables. Go for chairs with a slightly slimmer profile if you'll regularly be seating more people at the extended length, so you can fit everyone comfortably.
