About us

Way back in 1930, JK Wilkinson opened his first store in Leicester and since then, we’ve not stopped growing. Today, we’re still family run, but now we have over 400 stores across the UK – with big plans to open more. As we’re not a PLC, we don’t have shareholders to answer to like many other high street giants. Instead, we’ve always put our people and customers before profit. It’s about making business decisions that are morally spot on, ethically sound and well, the right thing to do.

Corporate responsibility

Our charities:

We are passionate about fundraising and encouraging everyone to work with local and regional charities.

Our stores, Distribution Centres and Head Office support a range of local and national charities throughout the year, those of which have been chosen by our team members as they have a real connection with the charities they choose. Find out more about the charities we support.

Carrier bag charging:

Carrier bag charging has been in place in Wales since 2011 and in Scotland since 2014. Most recently in 2015, England also started charging 5p per bag. The proceeds from these sales are split between 11 charities across all three nations. It’s all about reducing our reliance on carrier bags and lessening our impact on the environment, as well as making a positive difference in our stores’ communities. Find out more about the money we have raised.

Modern slavery statement:

Find out about the steps taken by the Wilko group in accordance with section 54(2) of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and the Modern Slavery Act 2015 (Transparency in Supply Chains) Regulations 2015.
