Hallway Storage

Getting your hallway under control

Work boots scattered over the hallway? Lost your favourite sliders in an old pile of shoes? Sounds like you need some hallway shoe storage.

A good shoe cabinet keeps footwear neatly out of sight behind closed doors (available in tall and narrow designs to suit tighter hallways), while an open shoe rack is a more accessible option if you want your most-worn pairs easy to grab on the way out. Boot stands are worth considering if you have larger footwear to deal with, and a hallway storage bench or ottoman bench gives you somewhere to sit while putting them on, too.

Finding the right fit for your hallway

A coat rack or hallway coat stand keeps your favourite jackets off the floor and makes them easy to grab on the way out. Freestanding coat stands work well if you don't want to put anything on the walls, while wall-mounted coat hooks are a more space-efficient option for narrower hallways. Our hook range includes practical multi-hook rails for busier households, as well as individual hooks in a variety of finishes, including some fun kids' designs in rainbow and dinosaur styles if you're kitting out a family home. A coat rack with a built-in shelf or lower rail adds extra storage for bags, scarves, umbrellas, and hats without taking up any more floor space.

Storage solutions for a busy hallway

A hallway bench with storage is a place to sit while putting on shoes, a place to store them underneath, and a surface to drop bags and keys on after a long day. Console tables serve a similar purpose without the seating, making them a neater option in a hallway that's more of a thoroughfare than a stopping point. Both work well paired with a mirror above to make the space feel bigger and brighter. Browse our wider hallway furniture range for more options.

Hallway storage ideas for smaller spaces

When you’re working with a narrower hallway, you need to make the most of your wall space. A slim coat rack or a row of wall hooks keeps floor space clear, while an over-door organiser on the front door itself is a clever way to add storage for keys, post, and everyday essentials without using any floor or wall space at all. A tall, narrow shoe cabinet takes up a surprisingly small bit of space for the amount it holds, and a small hallway bench with under-seat storage tucks neatly against one wall. Hallway Storage FAQs

How do I choose the right hallway storage?

Start with what's causing the most chaos. Shoes piling up by the door? A shoe cabinet or rack is the most direct fix. Coats ending up on the floor or over the bannister? A coat rack, stand, or set of wall hooks solves it. Keys and post disappearing into a pile of clutter? A console table or small shelf gives them a home. For busier households dealing with all of the above, a hallway bench with storage underneath does a lot with little space.

What is the best hallway storage for a small hallway?

Wall-mounted solutions are the most space-efficient option for narrow hallways. Coat hooks and a slim wall shelf take up almost no floor space while still doing a useful job. A tall, narrow shoe cabinet makes the most of vertical space without spreading out, and an over-door organiser on the front door adds storage without using any floor or wall space at all. Avoid bulky freestanding furniture in very tight hallways, as it tends to make the space feel more cluttered!

Can hallway storage work in an open plan space?

Yes, in an open plan home where the hallway flows directly into a living or dining area, it's worth choosing hallway storage that looks as good as it functions. A console table with storage underneath, a neat coat stand in a complementary finish, or a storage bench in a fabric that ties in with the rest of the room all work well without looking out of place.
