Fire Pits

Where is the best place to keep a fire pit?

A garden fire pit is a great addition to your patio setup, providing heat for those cool evenings and some welcome ambience! Make sure your fire pit is in a well-ventilated area and away from any flammable surface. For safety, pop your fire pit on an even surface, and avoid putting it near grass in case of scorching.

For storage, you should keep your outdoor fire pit under cover when not in use to avoid rusting, either in garden storage, in a shed, or outbuilding.

FAQs

Can I cook on a fire pit?

Some fire pits double up as grills, so you can make tasty snacks over the open flame. Always make sure you’re using food-safe burning materials, and it’s a good idea to wait for the flames to die down a little so you don’t burn the marshmallows!

What type of fuel should I use for an outdoor fire pit?

There’s plenty of fuels out there to choose from, but you should try and use eco-friendly fuel where possible and avoid any which create a lot of smoke for the benefit of your neighbours and friends!

Are fire pits safe?

Fire pits are safe to use if they are placed away from flammable materials and on an even surface like a patio. Never leave your fire pit unattended, especially if there’s kids around!

Should you put sand in the bottom of a portable fire pit?

Using sand in your fire pit can significantly extend its lifespan by shielding it from the fire's intense heat. Additionally, sand helps distribute the heat evenly throughout the pit.

What do you line the bottom of a fire pit with?

When it comes to what you put in your fire pit, you have several options. Consider using a paver base, fire bricks, or gravel. Alternatively, you can use concrete slabs, fire glass, sand, dirt, or lava stones. Keep in mind that your choice will affect the brightness of the fire.
