When to put plants in a cold frame?

Cold frames are there to ‘harden off’ your plants by getting them used to the outside temperatures slowly. Once they’ve established decent roots and they’re nearly at the size for transplanting, you can transfer your plants from inside or the greenhouse to a cold frame.

Does a cold frame need to be in full sun?

Cold frames should get decent light, but it isn’t as essential as a greenhouse. Avoid fully sheltered spots and go for decent light where you can.

What makes a good cold frame?

Look for cold frames with aluminium and glass construction, easy-to-open lids, and lightweight frames that can be easily moved.
