Onion sets are small onions grown from seed that, when replanted in spring, continue to grow and produce delicious bulb onions that are ready to harvest in early autumn. Red Baron is a wonderful variety that will give you a heavy crop of gorgeous deep red onions with striking red-rimmed white flesh. It has a good strong flavour and is great used raw in a salad. They store well over winter too. How to grow onions: Plant the onion sets from February until April, 3cm deep and 12cm apart and water well. Weed regularly and water during particularly dry spells. Harvest from August to September, when the leaves begin to turn yellow. Lift with a fork, remove the leaves and allow to dry for a couple of days in the sun.
