Wooden chopping boards should only ever be hand washed with hot water and a mild soap before drying with a tea towel. As wood is naturally absorbent, it will need some time to dry fully before you pop it back in the cupboard. Marble and glass aren’t porous, so these can also be hand washed or wiped down. Plastic chopping boards can be hand washed or popped in the dishwasher – but double check the packaging to make sure it’s safe to do so!

You may find that your chopping board has the annoying habit of moving around when you’re working on it. Not only is this inconvenient, but it can also be unsafe if you’re dealing with sharp knives – thankfully, there’s an incredibly easy hack to help! Simply wet a piece of kitchen roll and pop that underneath your chopping board. Voila! Your board will stay put.
