How to make the most of your bathroom space

Make a splash with paint

The colour you choose for your bathroom is important. Dark walls can make a room feel smaller so stick to lighter, more neutral tones. Make sure you choose a specialist paint that’s up to the job too. Our wilko bathroom paint is moisture, steam and mould-resistant. We love shades Cool Water blue and Delicate Blossom pink.

And why stop at your walls? A fresh lick of paint for your tiles can make all the difference to your space. Our white bathroom tile paint is a great choice for freshening them up. It’s moisture-resistant and covers in just one coat – that's a little win!

Even more ideas for your walls

If one-colour walls aren’t for you, don’t worry, we’ve got plenty of other ways you can get an uncluttered feel without just sticking to neutral paint shades.

Transform your walls with tiles. It’s easier than you think with our range of self-adhesive tiles. Use them as a sink splash back, round the bath or tile halfway up the wall. They’re available in a range of designs to suit both modern bathroom designs as well as traditional.

If you’re feeling creative, why not have a go at creating shapes in the bathroom around features such as radiators or sinks? Choose a paint colour that’ll complement your main bathroom wall paint.

And who says wallpaper doesn’t work in the bathroom? We’ve got a range of antibacterial wallpaper that’s designed especially for it. This waterproof wallpaper comes in a range of styles that will give a fresh new look to your bathroom without leaving it looking cluttered.

Space-saving storage solutions

The secret to a blissful bathroom is to sort out your storage and clear out the clutter. Start by going through all your toiletries and throw away or donate anything you don’t use. It’s important to be smart with storage in a small space so make sure everything has its place. Toilet roll holder? Check! Toothbrush holder? Check! Toilet brush holder? Check! If you’re lucky enough to have drawer and cupboard space in your bathroom, make sure it’s organised, so you get the most from it. Plastic baskets are ideal for separating your items and keeping them neat and tidy.

Don’t worry if you don’t have built-in storage though, there’s still lots of ways to add some storage space. Stop shampoo bottles, shower gels and bubble baths from piling up around the bath and shower by attaching a shower caddy to your wall. And when it comes to free-standing storage, slimline storage boxes are your best friend! They’ll fit snugly down the side of your loo, giving you plenty of space for all your bits and bobs.

If you’re really struggling for space, the only way is up! Add some floating shelves to your walls to give you that little extra storage where it’s needed.

Mirror, mirror on the wall

A clever way to create the illusion of space is with mirrors. They’re great for making a room feel bigger than it actually is. And what better place for a mirror than a bathroom? If you don’t already have one it’s a must-have for a smaller bathroom, and remember, the bigger the better. Turn a big bathroom mirror into a feature of the room. They’re great for reflecting light as well as adding some style.

Add a few accessories

You don’t have to go crazy but adding some personality to your bathroom with a few carefully chosen accessories will make all the difference. The trick here is to choose items that you can hang on your wall or windowsill, so they don’t take up precious space on your bathroom units. Personalise your space with some slogan art in a photo frame. Add some greenery with faux plants and create the perfect space for winding down with those all-important scented candles. And…relax!
