How to make Christmas decorations using lights

Christmas lights aren’t just for the tree, and they don’t have to be just for Christmas either! There are loads of different ways you can use them in your home to make decorations for your fireplace, sideboard, or as a table centrepiece. Loads of the items you need are already lying around the house, making it budget-friendly too!

Here’s a few of our own ideas to get you started. They’re so quick and easy to do that you could even get the kids involved! Gather everyone round the table, blast out some classic Christmas tunes and bring on decking the house from top to bottom!

Jazzy jars

For a seasonal table centrepiece or fireplace feature, take jars of different sizes, unscrew the lids and add lights. If you need to pack out your jars, pop in some decorations of your choice such as pine cones or baubles. The design is totally up to you!

What you’ll need:

Take your lantern and add one layer of lights to the bottom. Before adding the next layer, carefully add in a couple of baubles (choose a colour that matches your overall festive theme) then add in your next layer of lights. Repeat until you reach the top of the lantern. Make sure you pop the battery pack at the bottom of the lantern to keep it hidden.

The white frosted tips of these pine cones come to life with the bright copper lights. This is a great one for the kids to help with. You don’t just have to fill the vase with pine cones, why not head out on a scavenger hunt and find other items to include such as conkers, leaves and acorns.
